Aerosol Generation from Liquids - Liquid Nebulizers / Aerosol Generators
Overview

| Condensation Aerosol Generator SLG 250 | Prospect | |

The condensation aerosol generator series SLG can be used for generation of high-concentration monodisperse aerosols. The aerosol generation principle is based on the controlled heterogeneous condensation acc. to Sinclair-LaMer. Vaporized aerosol material is recondensed in a controlled manner onto small sodium chloride particles serving as condensation nuclei. This forced condensation allows you to obtain a high grade of monodispersity even at high number concentrations. During development of the aerosol generator series SLG great importance has been attached to ist stable operation and ease of use. As a result of both the direct heating of the aerosol material in the saturator and its bypass arrangement particle size can be changed very rapidly. Using di-2-ethyl hexyl sebacate (DEHS) as the aerosol material a particle size range from 0.1µm to 5µm (aerodynamic diameter dae) can be covered with geometric standard deviations sg less than 1.15. This type of aerosol generator is also suitable to produce solid state aerosols from carnauba wax, paraffins or stearic acid e.g. The compact design and clear layout of the aerosol generators guarantee easy operation, simple checking of control parameters and last but not least straightforward maintenance and replacement of the materials used for aerosol generation. The particle size parameters can be monitored continuously inline by means of Topas process aerosol monitor PAM 510.

| Principle: The SLG 250 uses a condensation process for generating monodisperse aerosols. The following picture shows the funktional schema of the generator adapted from Sinclair-La Mer-principle.
The HEPA-filter ensures cleanness of the carrier gas (nitrogen) thereby guaranteeing constant conditions independent of the original quality of the nitrogen. In the atomizer a NaCl-solution (20mg NaCl/1l water, according to a conductivity of 50µS/cm) is sprayed from a nozzle to produce droplets in the size range 1..3 µm. Downstream the atomizer a diffusion dryer removes the water from the droplets to produce small crystals which have a size of 10..100 nm, depending on the original concentration of the solution. The concentration of these salt cristalls that are used as nuclei for the heterogeneous condensation add up to 106 ... 107 je cm3. The size of the aerosol particles to be produced is determined by the quantity of available vapour per nucleus. | Accessories: - Topas Process Aerosol Monitor PAM 510 for checking concentration and mean particle size

| Condensation Aerosol Generator SLG 270 | Prospect | |
For various tasks in laboratory and research monodisperse aerosols are required. Aerosol generators of the series SLG 250/270 produce such aerosols with definite properties in a wide range of particle size and concentration as well. The aerosol generation principle is based on the controlled heterogeneous condensation acc. to Sinclair-LaMer. Depending on the choice of the particle material either droplet or solid state aerosols can be generated. The patented innovative concept in combination with state of the art control instruments and regulators guarantees quick and reproducible adjustment of both particle size and concentration. Both parameters of the outlet aerosol can be continuously monitored by the process aerosol monitor series PAM
510.

*) The device is also available with power supply for 110V. (Statement in brackets for SLG 270) | Principle: The aerosol generation principle used in the series SLG is based on the principle of the controlled heterogeneous condensation of vapour onto separately produced condensation nuclei after Sinclair-LaMer (as described by VDI guideline 3491 part 4). By means of an Atomizer, a primary aerosol consisting of small particles serving as condensation nuclei disperged in the carrier gas is produced. This primary aerosol is mixed and saturated inside the Saturator with the vapour phase of the material to be used as particle material. The Reheater section is used to heat up the mixture to definite temperature level in order to avoid premature condensation and to reach reproducible supersaturation conditions at the entry of the Condensation Chimney where controlled condensation of the particle material onto the nuclei is performed in a laminar flow regime.

Special features of the aerosol generators of the series SLG is the saturator flowrate adjustment for rapid particle size changes. Furthermore the SLG 270 features a screen section for nuclei concentration reduction in a definite manner what leads to larger particles (patented 43 12 983). | Accessories: - Topas Process Aerosol Monitor PAM 510 for checking concentration and mean particle size
